Demolition Day

It's been a long time since we have seen any serious digger action, but today was the day the last part of the patio and the outbuildings came down.

The day started like this....

But once Mike got to work, it soon looked like this ....

And then looked like this.

Of course, after all this work, a small scone break was in order.

By the end of the day, this was all that was left of the patio.

Not bad for a day's work.

A Lot of Concrete

As promised, the last week of January has mainly been about concrete.

The main walls of the pool house have been completed but concrete is now poured behind them to ensure that they, (and the main house), stay exactly where they are.

Over in the stables, the walls are being built up to allow the floor joists for the upstairs to be put on.

Open air living

Now all the timbers are off the roof of the stables.

This week the focus will mainly be on the pool house structure.

The waterproof coating has been applied to part of the concrete walls

Looks like there will be another visit from the concrete lorry soon. Watch this space!

The roof comes off!

We went a way for a week in the first week of January - and a lot has changed.

The roof was off over the future living room.

And the rest of the slates were being packed up.

Inside the stables the walls were going up.

The future hall way

The future master bedroom

Some of the walls had been formed for the swimming pool.

But Henry and Chris were still hard at work .... eating lunch.

The Week Before Christmas

Just before Christmas the concrete floor of the stables was poured.

And the reinforcing steels got higher.

The Parrs' First Site Inspection

The weekend before Christmas, the Parrs came to check on progress.

Dylan and Lucy inspected the groundworks.

Everyone inspected the stables.

And a few people tried out the heavy machinery.

The Steel Takes Shape

Whilst work is under way on the stables, the reinforcing steel structure starts to go up.

Work Begins on The Stables

On 9th December, work began on the stables.

The first task was to remove the interior walls...

...and floor.

The courtyard was filled with building materials.

Mike got to work with his mini-digger.

A Flurry of Activity

The first week of December was a busy time.

Deliveries arrived....

A new digger arrived....

And more concrete lorries came.

Our First Concrete Lorry Arrives

On the 1st December, the first of the Concrete lorry arrived. Building, instead of digging at last!

In the fading light, concrete is poured into the footings.

Marking Out

On 24th November the digging temporarily stopped and the pool house structure was marked out.

But for the next 2 days, the digger was back in action.

19th November 2011

A family site inspection confirms we now have an enormous hole where the back garden once was.
The field is also undergoing a transformation.
The stables remained largely unchanged
The doors had been removed for the bonfire, but the walls remain intact.
